Kenan Institute answers “What Next, America?”

Providing solutions to critical economic issues facing the Trump Administration is the focus of a new report from the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise at the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School.

Influential business leaders, academics and policy makers identified concrete solutions at the “What’s Next, America?” conference at the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise before the election. Their insights are captured in a report that includes policy briefs for the new administration.

“Policies and ideas outlined in the conference report illuminate how to improve the overall economy while making sure gains are shared broadly across America,” said James H. Johnson Jr., William R. Kenan Jr. Distinguished Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship. “We explore how re-engineering the U.S. system of education and training programs could bring the requisite skills to the U.S. labor force to compete successfully for jobs and business opportunities in the new world of work.”

The report also explores how rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure could facilitate the movement of information, goods, services and capital and assure that people of all ages are able to live independently.

The typical person sees the economy growing and the rich getting richer, and, frankly, it seems unfair to a lot of people even if they disagree on the cause or what should be done about it.
