Rich Bettis

Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship

Strategy issues are the focus of research for management professor Rich Bettis, who is the Ellison Distinguished Professor.

His expertise extends to corporate strategy, global business strategy, strategic management and technology management.

Dr. Bettis consults for several firms and is a frequent speaker in management development programs. Recent clients include Bank of America, Dell Computer, GE, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Motorola and Monsanto.

In 1993 he won the Strategic Management Journal Best Paper Prize. His research also has been published in Management Science, Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, California Management Review, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Management, The Journal of World Business and Long Range Planning.

Dr. Bettis is associate editor of the Strategic Management Journal. He is an elected fellow of the Strategic Management Society, serves serves on its board of directors and became its president elect in 2002. He served on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Management from 1989-92.

He worked at General Motors as a product development engineer for five years.

He received his PhD and MBA from the University of Michigan and his BS in engineering physics from Ohio State University.
