The Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise is the outreach arm of UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. Founded in 1985 by visionary entrepreneur and philanthropist Frank Hawkins Kenan, the Institute is the research, outreach, and strategic planning arm of Kenan-Flagler Business School. The nonprofit institute and its affiliated centers convene leaders from the private sector, academic community, and government to build a greater understanding of how the business sector can work for the public good. The Institute’s mission is to develop and promote innovative, market-based solutions to vital economic issues. Assistant Director of Operations

The Assistant Director of Operations works alongside the Managing Director and Executive Director of the Kenan Institute to provide operational and personnel support to the Institute. This includes managing and supporting daily operations of the Institute, leading team meetings, creating briefing materials, implementing policies and procedures for operational efficiency, and setting personnel strategy for the unit. As the day-to-day operational lead, this position has broad authority on implementing best practices and advising on operational and staffing needs within the unit.

The Assistant Director works closely with the Kenan-Flagler Business School Office of Human Resources to support the Institute’s hiring needs. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Operations is responsible for disseminating information on the performance management process to Institute personnel, and serves as the Institute’s onboarding coordinator for new hires. This position also develops and manages processes that support employee training and development, and implements strategies intended to recruit and retain talent within the Kenan Institute.

This position additionally sets internal communication strategy, manages key projects and initiatives, and provides budget planning and support in coordination with the Directors and other operational staff. This position also manages one or more full-time, permanent employees.
