Market-Based Solutions to Vital Economic Issues

Background

I grew up in Lexington, Kentucky, with family roots stretching from Nashville, TN north to Minnesota.  As a kid, I always enjoyed family road trips, exploring new places along our route.  While attending The University of the South in Sewanee, TN, I continued exploring new places by completing a semester of study abroad in Madrid, Spain, a summer research grant in Barcelona, and internships both in Bangladesh and the Dominican Republic.  I graduated with a B.A. in Economics and a B.A. in Spanish, along with a passion for connecting with people from diverse backgrounds.  After college, I worked in corporate lending in the Triangle region, during a historical time in the banking industry.

Career Path

In the past several years, I have been developing an interest in the health care industry, specifically public health issues related to economic development.  First, motivated by my college international experiences, I became involved in community service through Raleigh’s Rotary International clubs.  Second, through working part-time as a YMCA fitness trainer, I became exposed to obesity and preventative health issues.   A desire to combine these, a focus on community development and public health, is what lead me to pursue an MBA at UNC Kenan-Flagler.  With its community-centered values and its emerging concentration in health care, Kenan-Flagler will provide me with effective leadership skills that will help me make a difference in my future endeavors.  As complications related to health care reform and chronic disease management continue to rise, it will be critical to have thoughtful and skilled leaders in the health care sector to create effective solutions.

Interests and Hobbies

I love spending time with family and friends, surrounded by laughter and good food.  I enjoy being outdoors, and like to stay active through sand volleyball, aerobics classes (like Zumba), and biking around campus.  If I weren’t a full-time student (and if I had an unlimited budget!), I would love to travel around the world.
