Market-Based Solutions to Vital Economic Issues

Background

Though I was born Florida, I was primarily raised in Durham, NC as the second born of three children. Upon finishing middle school I was afforded the opportunity to move to Mississippi and attend The Piney Woods School, one of the last historically black boarding schools in the United States. After high school, I enrolled in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications After working for the state of North Carolina’s largest health insurance provider for several years, I chose to return to graduate school and obtained a Master of Information Science from North Carolina Central University. Then, after several years working in information technology as an IT Consultant and Systems Analyst, I chose to return to school to earn an MBA in order to better position myself to attain an executive position at a top technology company. In doing so, I believe I will be better positioned to have a greater impact on society.

Career Path

Over the course of my life I have always thought of technology as one of the most sustainable and exciting job fields. Furthermore, I have always had a knack and excitement for understanding, analyzing, and resolving complex issues requiring technology. Upon graduating, I would like to obtain either a Business Technology Consulting or Internal Business Technology Consulting position with a respected technology company. Upon completion of several years in this industry, I seek to establish my own technology consulting company specializing in business technology solutions, IT infrastructure, and IT security.

Interests and Hobbies

Having once come from less than ideal circumstances myself, I have always had a passion for mentoring and working with inner-city disadvantaged youth. Having had the opportunity to help start a nonprofit organization and the chance to serve in countless other capacities, I developed a passion for doing so. In addition, I have an interest in entrepreneurial ventures. Though I have started my own company specializing in mobile apps and web development, I wish to obtain stronger business acumen over the course of my time at UNC Kenan-Flagler that will allow me to make better and more informed decisions regarding other entrepreneurial efforts.
