Dean’s Speaker Series: Emerging, Authentic Leadership in a Post-COVID World

Harvard’s Bill George and Three Ships’ Zach Clayton Challenge Leaders for a New Era

Please join us for “How Leadership Is Changing for Your Generation,” an exclusive conversation with Zach Clayton of Three Ships and Bill George of Harvard Business School. Their fireside chat is offered through the Dean’s Speaker Series, hosted by the Kenan Institute in partnership with UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School Interim Dean Jennifer Conrad.

The hourlong event will be moderated by Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior and Associate Dean of the Undergraduate Business Program Shimul Melwani and will take place at 12:30 p.m. EDT Wednesday, Oct. 19, in the Kenan Center Room 204.

Leadership expert and bestselling author George and tech entrepreneur Clayton have written “True North: Emerging Leader Edition,” the latest addition to George’s “True North” series, which was released Aug. 30 by publisher John Wiley & Sons. The book challenges emerging leaders — from Gen X to millennials to Gen Z — to navigate today’s complex challenges by discovering their individual leadership purpose.

George is executive fellow at Harvard Business School, where he has taught since 2004 and where he became a mentor to Clayton through his course on authentic leadership. George previously served as CEO and board chair of leading healthcare technology company Medtronic; under his leadership, Medtronic’s market capitalization grew from $1.1 billion to $60 billion, averaging an astounding 35 percent a year.

Clayton is founder and CEO of Raleigh-based Three Ships, which owns a collection of digital marketplace businesses enabling brands to grow efficiently while maintaining a strong connection with consumers. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead Scholar and Phi Beta Kappa honoree, and earned his MBA with high distinction from Harvard Business School.

While this event is free and open to the public, pre-registration is required as lunch will be provided for all attendees.
