Featuring T.W. Lewis Clinical Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship and Director of the Entrepreneurship Center Ted Zoller
As Global Entrepreneurship Week begins, Professor Ted Zoller, faculty director of the Kenan Institute-affiliated UNC Entrepreneurship Center, discusses what UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School is doing to drive innovation in entrepreneurship education and prepare the next generation of entrepreneurs for success.
According to Zoller, Kenan-Flagler is bringing “the street and the university together,” working with successful entrepreneurs to bring their stories into the classroom. The school’s world-class accelerator program, Launch Chapel Hill, works with about 30 small businesses each year. Zoller and his colleagues take what they learn from these companies and incorporate it into the school’s entrepreneurship curriculum.
Zoller says that the information he gathers from successful entrepreneurs in the accelerator program allows him new insight into the critical, real-world components of entrepreneurial success, such as how to build teams, drive performance and scale growth. In today’s business environment, says Zoller, “It’s not about startup; it’s about grow up.”
