Chapel Hill, N.C. (March 23, 2020) – A panel of experts convened by UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and its affiliated Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise will be offering a press briefing via webinar on the dramatic short- and long-term impact of the COVID-19 financial downturn on personal and consumer finance—including effects on retirement, mortgage rates and tax policy. Join tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24, from 11-11:45 a.m. EDT to hear from:

UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School Professor Cami Kuhnen on how neuroscience and psychology can help us to better understand households’ behaviors during difficult economic times, as well as the effects of adversity on people’s economic expectations and their spending and saving decisions.

UNC Tax Center Associate Director Professor Courtney Knoll on tax considerations with regard to accessing cash, such as home equity loans and 401(k) contributions, as well as deductions for medical expenses and tax-advantaged options for investing in a down market.

Kenan Institute Executive Director Professor Greg Brown on what the current market downturn means for how employees should manage retirement age and income expectations.

And providing a private sector perspective, UIA Investment Management Senior Portfolio Manager Dan Adler on current market developments in mortgage-backed securities (MBS) and securitized assets stemming from the recent market disruption.

Each expert will provide a brief overview on the above topics, citing all applicable emerging research and data, before opening the floor for questions from the press.
