WRAL’s ‘On the Record’: How Consumers Could Get Relief From Inflation

Kenan Institute Chief Economist Gerald Cohen was part of a panel on WRAL’s in-depth news program July 2 discussing the whys and how longs of inflation, particularly rising prices for gas, housing and food. Cohen, referring to research done in his time at the Treasury Department during the Obama administration, said that changes such as allowing more floors to be built in apartment and condo buildings can make a difference in housing costs. “If you want to increase housing, you need to think about increasing the density of that housing in places where there is high demand,” Cohen said.
