Kenan Institute Student Fund Application

By showcasing the power of business in contributing to societal good, we aim to enlighten and motivate students from all academic disciplines about the positive impact they can make through business and economics. Each year, the Kenan Institute will award ten stipends of $500 each to student-led initiatives that leverage business strategies for social impact. This funding encourages projects that align with the Kenan Institute’s mission, empowering students to make a tangible difference in their communities.

What is the Kenan Institute?

The Kenan Institute is a non-partisan, non-profit think tank affiliated with the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. We leverage research and thought leadership from faculty and in-house experts to develop and promote innovative, market-based solutions to vital economic issues, with the goal of improving the lives of people in North Carolina, across the country and around the world.

Who can apply?

Awards are open to all undergraduate students currently enrolled at UNC-Chapel Hill. However, preference will be given to non-business major students. Applications may be representative of an individual effort or those of a club, event, organization, class, etc. (Please note that if applying on behalf of a larger group, only one award may be given to that group per year.)

What are some examples of things we might fund?
  • Student clubs and group operating costs
  • Events, conferences and speaker fees
  • Marketing and promotional efforts affiliated with a business initiative
  • Individual community efforts

* Please note that we cannot fund any projects that are political in nature.

How do I apply?

Fill out and submit the application. We review applications once in the fall and once in the spring and will let you know the status of your application at those intervals. You may choose to keep your application on file with us for the duration of the year without resubmitting.

Those who receive funding will need to fill out additional financial paperwork before receiving the award, as well as detailed expense records within 30 days of completion of the project.
