Chapel Hill, N.C. (July 6, 2020) — A panel of experts from the North Carolina CEO Forum, convened by UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and its affiliated Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise, will be offering a press briefing via webinar to introduce a new framework (available here beginning Tuesday, July 7, at 8 a.m. EDT) aggregating real-time, non-standard economic and public health data to guide critical policy decisions on economic openness. Join tomorrow, Tuesday, July 7, at 11 a.m. EDT to hear from the following experts:

UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School Professor Christian Lundblad will discuss whether an economic restart necessarily pits lives versus livelihoods, offering a cost-benefit analysis within the context of the forum’s new framework for decision-making.

Kenan Institute Senior Fellow and Carroll Family Holdings Founder David Carroll will offer his take on the role businesses should play in developing crisis-related policy solutions, with an emphasis on the need to partner to ensure timely, detailed and accurate data is publicly available.

First Citizens Bank Vice Chair Hope Bryant will share her insights from the perspective of a financial institution on how both consumers and businesses are coping with the ongoing pandemic, and what challenges and opportunities lie ahead dependent upon the reopening decisions made today.

Kenan Institute Executive Director and UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School Professor Greg Brown will provide an in-depth overview of the new data dashboard, including how different COVID-19 statistics such as deaths, hospitalizations and new positive tests tell different stories about the current state of the pandemic in North Carolina. He’ll also present a new index showcasing the economic importance of not only opening non-essential businesses—but ensuring the public feels safe in patronizing those businesses.

Each speaker will provide a brief overview from his or her respective area of expertise, citing applicable emerging research and data, before the floor is opened for questions from the press. For a link to participate, email MacKenzie Babb.
