Chapel Hill, N.C. (April 20, 2020) — A panel of experts convened by UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and its affiliated Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise will be offering a press briefing via webinar on the impact COVID-19 has had, and will continue to have, on higher education and related educational technology. Some level-setting facts and figures are included in the fact sheet to the left. Join tomorrow, Tuesday, April 21, at 11 a.m. EDT to hear from the following experts:

North Carolina Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Liaison and UNC School of Nursing Professor Mary Schuler will discuss the response to COVID-19 in healthcare higher education, including recent decisions to waive tuition and fees for RN refresher theory courses in an effort to support surge healthcare staffing.

UNC College of Arts and Sciences Associate Dean of Instructional Innovation Professor Kelly Hogan will cover the technical and operational challenges associated with higher education moving to distance learning as well as maintaining that environment for the foreseeable future.

UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School Dean Doug Shackelford will share the financial and business challenges this poses for universities around the world as they grapple with higher technology costs, fewer enrolled students and a significant drop in anticipated giving.

Association of College and University Educators CEO Susan Cates will provide her insights on how higher education can maintain—and even strengthen—its value proposition while adjusting to a wholly uncharted operating environment.

Each expert will provide a brief overview of his or her respective topic, citing applicable emerging research and data, before the floor is opened for questions from the press. For a link to participate, email MacKenzie Babb.
