Welcome Class of 2021 Kenan Scholars!
Fifteen students from Kenan-Flagler Business School have been selected as members of the third class of undergraduate Kenan Scholars. The two-and-half-year program, sponsored by the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise, brings together business school majors and minors who have exhibited outstanding leadership on campus and in the community.

Each year, 10-25 students at Kenan-Flagler Business School are selected to participate in the program, which provides an experiential, competency-based curriculum designed to advance scholars’ knowledge of and interest in working at the nexus of private industry, the public sector and academia.
“We’re thrilled to welcome our newest class of Kenan Scholars,” said Kim Allen, director of the program, “and to help build the capacity of these future business leaders to tackle some of society’s most intractable issues in their collaborations with the public sector and academia.”
Scholars gain practical, hands-on experience in the public and private sectors through co-curricular activities and internships. They participate in symposia, workshops, trainings and field trips, as well as undertake a business research project in their senior year. Scholars have access to funds for enrichment and professional development activities, public sector internships and research.
The Kenan Scholars Program is the most recent iteration of the Kenan Institute Leadership Fellows (KILF) program founded in 2005. By expanding the program’s focus on leadership development to include business research and cross-sector collaborations, the Kenan Institute more fully engages Kenan-Flagler students in its mission to put knowledge to work.
Since 2005, nearly 100 undergraduate and MBA students have graduated from the program. Scholars have gone on to pursue Ph.D. business programs, create entrepreneurial startups and establish careers in government, private industry and the nonprofit sector. Through these efforts, the program continues to build high-impact business leaders committed to changing the world for the better and using business for the public good.
