They will take on this year’s grand challenge exploring labor market changes

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (April 13, 2023) – The Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise is excited to announce its 2023 class of Distinguished Fellows. Appointed annually, the Distinguished Fellows comprise an exemplary set of global scholars committed to leveraging their individual expertise, thought leadership, research and networks to further the institute’s efforts to examine and drive solutions to issues facing business and the economy today. This year’s class will support the Kenan Institute’s 2023 grand challenge – Workforce Disrupted: Seeking the Labor Market’s Next Equilibrium – as employers and workers seek to find common ground in the aftermath of the pandemic.

The 2023 Distinguished Fellows are:

• John Haltiwanger, Dudley and Louisa Dillard Professor of Economics, University of Maryland.
• Angelica Leigh, assistant professor of management and organizations, Duke Fuqua School of Business.
• Arvind Malhotra, H. Allen Andrew Distinguished Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship, UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.
• Ricardo Perez-Truglia, associate professor of economic analysis and policy, UC Berkeley Haas School of Business. 
• Thomas Stith, CEO, The Michael Thomas Group Inc., and former president, North Carolina Community College System.
• Tara Watson, professor of economics, Williams College.

Thanks to the generous support of Bruce and Katie Van Saun, each fellow will take part in a Kenan Institute event open to the press and public.
