CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Aug. 2, 2023) – With inflation subsiding and the economy growing, talk of a soft landing has picked up again. There are weaknesses to offset these strengths, however, and core inflation is decelerating slowly enough that the Federal Reserve may be compelled to continue raising interest rates, supporting the argument that a recession is still on the way.
Join us for the Kenan Institute’s monthly virtual press briefing at 9 a.m. EDT this Friday, Aug. 4, as Executive Director Greg Brown addresses the conflicting evidence at the heart of the recession discussion and takes questions from the audience.
Experts from the institute will appear on the briefing each month and offer commentary in their areas of specialization. The briefings occur on the morning that the employment report is released, usually the first Friday of each month.
