Not-So-Great Expectations: Economic Briefing THIS Friday

CHAPEL HILL, NC (April 30, 2025) – Consumer sentiment and expectations are falling, says Kenan Institute Research Economist Sarah Dickerson, while gross domestic product for the first quarter of 2025 has decreased. That said, we can’t call a recession yet. Dickerson will address a mixed bag of economic news during the institute’s monthly briefing at 9 AM EDT Friday, May 2.

She will also discuss continued uncertainty around tariffs existing alongside continued resilience in the labor market up to now, though she’ll look at numbers from Friday morning’s employment report to see if that narrative continues.

Experts from the institute will appear on the briefing each month and offer commentary in their areas of specialization. Briefings generally occur on the morning that the Bureau of Labor Statistics releases its employment report.

You’re invited to join via Zoom and welcome to submit any questions you would like to be addressed to External Affairs Assistant Director Rob Knapp.

You are invited to a Zoom webinar.
