CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Aug. 2, 2024) – Is a softening economy really a good thing? Recent evidence suggests that the Federal Reserve may finally be sticking the soft landing. But this is, by definition, slower growth, which likely implies less hiring and lower wage growth.
Kenan Institute Research Fellow Greg Brown will explain the trade-offs for different parts of the economy and factor in the latest employment numbers during the institute’s monthly virtual briefing at 9 a.m. EDT Friday, Aug. 2.
Experts from the institute will appear on the briefing each month and offer commentary in their areas of specialization. Briefings generally occur on the morning that the Bureau of Labor Statistics releases its employment report.
